On the DS9/NEM "captain jackets" and duty jumpsuits, in addition to the division shirt itself, the wearer's division was also specified by a stripe on the sleeve cuffs.
The division stripe was made of the same cotton lycra as the division shirt, ensuring a perfect match between the two on the wearer.

The division stripe appears to have been cut parallel to the selvage - i.e. with the long lines.
Sometimes, though, it looks like the division stripe was cut perpendicular to the selvage (assuming the O'Brien example below wasn't an exception, mistake, one-off, etc., that is!):
